The senator elect under the platform of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Engr. Chris Ekpeyong was deputy Governor in Governor Victor Attah’s tenure from 1999 to 2005.
Engr. Chris Ekpeyong was the political leader to Godswill Akpabio where he (Akpabio) served as a commissioner under his administration (Chris).
Chris Ekpeyong who is known by his people as ukarakpa (Wales) scored 136…. While Akpabio could only clinched 68,000 the former minority leader who resigned his position and join APC was defeated with almost 70,000 votes.
Dr. Chris Ekpeyong was declared winner and senator elect for Ikot Ekpene senatorial district by INEC.
Chris Ekpenyong was born on September 29, 1954 in Ikot Ukana, Obot Akara local government area of akwa Ibom State.
In 1960, he attended St. Patrick’s Primary School, Ikot Ukana before leaving to St. Michael’s Primary School, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State where he got his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC).
In 1970 he attended Government Technical College, Port Harcourt and in 1975 he attended Federal Government Technical College, Yaba.
Engr. Chris Ekpeyong in 1977 attended Federal Polytechnic, Bida and obtained a OND in Electrical /Electronic Engineering. In 1980 attended The Polytechnic Calabar for a higher diploma and graduated with a HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1982.
In 1993 before joining politics he attended Kensington University, Glendale, California, United States and obtained a degree in Master of Business Administration (Marketing) in 1995.
